With the PlayStation exclusive MLB The Show franchise, every year is a new ballgame.

When you're promoting an annually updated sports game, getting old fans to update requires constant innovation. MLB The Show has always delivered. Over the years crafting the brand we consistently set new records for game sales by filling the seats with fans of all kinds, old and new alike. That's the key with any brand success story though, you can't just preach to the faithful, you've gotta gain some converts.

In 2016, MLB The Show

made the Road to the Show personal.

Every kid who has played catch in the backyard or swung a bat at the sandlot has dreamed of making it to the big leagues. Most of us don’t have the vision, talent, or drive to make that dream reality but thanks to MLB The Show we can live the fantasy. Our 2016 campaign focused on the “Road to the Show” mode, where gamers battle through the minors to reach the majors. With the help of Josh Donaldson and some game avatars, we told stories from The Road, gave guidance on how to succeed in The Show, and celebrated fandom.

In 2015, MLB The Show was looking for a fresh way to talk about new features.

Meet Bat & Ball. They're outrageous, ridiculous, and they know baseball. As the oldest sports rivals of all time, they provide a unique perspective on sports and MLB The Show. Their job is to give life to the weirdness of baseball, make people laugh, and help fans deepen their relationship with the sport.

 

We partnered with IGN as content hosts and released 5 digital episodes leading up to the game's launch. 

 

Over the course of the season, Bat & Ball became a signature voice for MLB 15 The Show through twitter, instagram, facebook and their own microsite.

PlayStation and MLB The Show had a problem. Baseball.

Sports fans saw baseball as boring, and sales were down four years in a row. Forget that. Mutt told The Show to be a champion for the sport with a simple message for everyone else: BASEBALL IS BETTER.

With a new spokesman & brand ambassadors we gave them plenty of content. We also had science. It it empirically proved: BASEBALL IS BETTER.

 

The campaign results were equally irrefutable. Record pre-order, day one, and week one sales. MLB 14 The Show became the bestselling title in the game's 9-year history.
